One
of the 6 hamlets located along the sunny north side of the Shuswap
Lake.
Named after the Scottish prospectors who sought for gold in the area in
the 1880's
Scotch Creek is in the vacation spot of British Columbia, however
many families have taken up permanent residence in the
community.
Located
at the base of some of BC's best snowmobiling mountain ranges too; and there is
a proposed road at Lee Creek that will connect the area to the Sun Peaks Ski
Resort; offering additional year round recreation in the area.
The
principle sources of employment are tourism, recreation, service industries,
forestry, and agriculture. Many artisans living in the area sell their works
privately and at community art shows. Some of the other commercial services
include, craft galleries, landscapers, storage facilities, hairdressers, office
extensions, artisans, accountants, book keepers, tax preparation, construction
contractors, log house builders, excavators, electricians, plumbers, boat sales,
skidoo sales, automotive services, repair shops, seasonal interest shops,
marketing and misc. companies.
There
is a, post office, medical clinic, dental clinic, pharmacy, marina, chamber of
commerce office, driving range, tourist booth, real estate office, RV parks,
general stores, restaurants, tourist attractions, accommodations, and the

The
community of North Shuswap is located on the North shore of the Shuswap Lake
approximately 45 minutes drive East of Kamloops. The community is comprised of 6
sub-areas known as Lee Creek; Scotch
Creek; Celista; Magna Bay; Anglemont and St. Ives. The road through the North Shuswap leaves the Trans Canada Highway
at Squilax, is paved and well maintained with many scenic kilometers following
the shoreline. Scotch Creek is
just North of the Trans Canada
Highway (TCH #1), and is approximately 60 minutes
from Kamloops, 2 hours from Kelowna, 4 hours from Vancouver and 6 hours from Calgary.
A New Route from the
highway at Squilax to the Sun Peaks Ski Resort area is being planned. Via this
route, Squilax would be a 20 minute
drive from Sun Peaks door to
door.
The
community of the North Shuswap is located in
Area F of the Columbia
Shuswap Regional District (CSRD).
The CSRD office is located in Salmon Arm. The CSRD Representative for Area F is
Denis Delisle; our MLA is Liberal - George Abbott and our MP is
New Conservative - Colin Mayes.
The
community of Celista currently has no zoning. Anglemont brought in zoning
through Bylaw 650 in 1998, Magna Bay brought in zoning
through Bylaw 800 in 2003 and Scotch Creek & Lee Creek received their zoning
through Bylaw 825 late in 2005. All areas in the North
Shuswap require building permits and building inspections as of June
2001.
The
population of the North Shore is approximately 6,000 people in
the off season winter months and over 30,000 people in the peak summer
months.

lakeshore living.
The Shuswap
Lake is perfect for
swimming, boating and water skiing while the beaches and parks are perfect
settings for picnicking and camping. Off trail motor
cycling, quading or snowmobiling range in terrain from novice to extreme

relative new sport, mountain biking is now offered in the area with world class
professional trail systems. Additional
recreation is offered with golfing, fishing, horseback riding and hiking. The area also
offers unique shopping opportunities with arts and craft shops featuring many
local artists.

North Shore community offers the locals and tourist with all the required

offices, restaurants, coffee shops, gift shops, schools, churches, fire
protection services, professional offices and related services. The majority of
these services being offered in the community of Scotch
Creek.

North Shore Community has been very pro-active in looking at opportunities to
attract and build their year round residencies, with positive planning
commitees to provide long term infrastructure services of water, sewer and
power.

statistics from the Multiple Listing Services, Okanagan Mainline Real Estate
Board show a healthy and steady increase in the sale of residential properties
on the North Shore. With $1.8 Million
in residential lot sales in 2000 growing to $10.9 Million in 2006; and $6
Million in residences growing to over $27 Million in 2006. With an actual
shortage of infrastructure and residential properties, lot sales in 2006 sky
rocketed to almost an unprecedented $11 Million.
During
the past three years, from 2003 to 2006; we have seen an increase in the
population of the North Shore averaging approximately 250
residential components each year, of which an estimated 50% are year round
